While we’re all hoping that a strong “El Niño” winter will help end the current drought situation, in the heat of the summer it’s more important than ever that we all do our part to reduce our water use. We thought we should share with our guests some of the ways Nugget Markets has taken on the challenge of reducing our water consumption to conserve this precious resource.
While we’re all hoping that a strong “El Niño” winter will help end the current drought situation, in the heat of the summer it’s more important than ever that we all do our part to reduce our water use. We thought we should share with our guests some of the ways Nugget Markets has taken on the challenge of reducing our water consumption to conserve this precious resource:
- We have reduced our water use at all of our hand-washing sinks by 75 percent by installing low-flow aerators.
- We have created monitoring and quick-response systems to track water use and waste on a monthly basis, and we are vigilant about reporting and repairing all leaks quickly.
- We are abiding by local regulations to limit outdoor watering to specific days and times.
- We have replaced water-wasting equipment with water-efficient equipment.
- We are working to create a culture of water efficiency within our stores by constantly communicating with our associates to create water-saving behaviors and practices.
As a result of these efforts, Nugget is proud to report the following water savings over the last few months:
- April 2015: Saved 222,123 gallons
- May 2015: Saved 623,800 gallons
- June 2015: Saved 880,159 gallons
