How does it happen? In a new program piloted by our Nugget Markets store on Mace Boulevard in Davis, associates pull slightly blemished (but still delicious) fruits and vegetables from the sales floor to donate to the cause. Representatives from “Fruit and Veggie Up” pick up the produce and give it to students that come through the Health and Wellness Center as a part of their "prescription for healthier choices."
The “Fruit and Veggie Up” program should be a great success, diverting lots of potential food waste and giving college students access to free, nutritious food choices.
Find out more details from the program in this video created by the UC Davis Student Health and Wellness Center.
