Appetizer cheese boards can be on the lighter side or heavy hitters. Either way, it’s good to have a theme to tie the board together. This tasty collection highlights some of our favorite European cheeses.
Since this hearty board has generous amounts of cheese, it can be served as a heavy appetizer before a light meal like soup or salad, or can even be served as a standalone meal. Pair with accompaniments like fig jam, Castelvetrano olives and grapes.
This type of heavy appetizer is best served with a Pinot Noir or a medium weight beer like an IPA or Amber. Need a little inspiration? Check out some of our preferred pairings:
Rougette & Taittinger Brut “La Francaise” Champagne The rich buttery taste of this German, cow’s milk triple crème cheese deserves to be paired with this creamy, nutty champagne!
La Tur & Franciscan Sauvignon Blanc This Italian, cow, sheep and goat’s milk, soft-ripened cheese is highlighted by the bright acidity in this Sauvignon Blanc.
Drunken Goat & Honoro Vera Organic Monastrell This wine variety is typically used in the production of this Spanish, goat’s milk, semi-firm cheese, and makes for a natural pairing.
Paradiso & Estancia Pinot Grigio Made in an Italian style, this Dutch aged gouda has a crystalline texture and sweet, nutty, buttery flavor that pairs well with the acidity and citrus and apple flavors in the wine.
Roquefort & Warre’s Warrior Port This French, sheep’s milk cheese is beautifully paired with the Warre’s Warrior Port for a combination that will keep you coming back for more.
