At Nugget Markets, our wine stewards have many years, and in some cases decades of experience tasting and selling wine. During the months of January and February, we’re celebrating their knowledge by featuring some of their personal picks at each store. The wines may be great examples of varietals or blends from a specific region or vintage, and beyond just tasting great, many of the wines represent great value.
So next time you’re shopping, check out the displays in our adult beverage section and ask the wine steward why they love these wines. You might find a new favorite!
This month, our Covell Blvd. location in Davis is featuring the following wines. Drop by our other locations to see more of our wine stewards’ favorites!
Arbios Cellars Cabernet: This well-balanced, award-winning wine has flavors and aromas of cherry, pomegranate, plum and wild blackberry, followed by hints of dark chocolate, cassis, cigar box and vanilla on the finish.
Praxis Pinot: With flavors of raspberry, cranberry, red currant, plum, cherry, allspice and mushroom and aromas of violet and vanilla, this wine has bright acidity and a rich, velvety mouthfeel.
Clayhouse Adobe Red: This wine is a blend of varieties from the estate vineyard with a unique depth of character. Predominantly Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, this wine also features Syrah, Malbec, Grenache and Mourvedre.
Honig Sauvignon Blanc: This crisp, fresh sauvignon blanc has flavors and aromas of peach, lemongrass, jasmine and pea shoot, balanced by grapefruit and lime. It is a medium-bodied wine with a bright, lingering finish.
Gundlach Bundschu Chardonnay: With fresh aromas of Meyer lemon, mandarin orange and key lime, this chardonnay has hints of honey, wet stone minerality and subtle spice. The creamy texture and intense weight create balance, depth and a lengthy finish.
