While there are many theories about the history of hot cross buns, a few common themes run through all the tasty lore. In religious circles, hot cross buns are often enjoyed on Good Friday with the iconic cross signifying Christ’s suffering on the cross.
A lot of non-religious lore surrounds these iconic buns, as well. One superstition suggests that sharing a hot cross bun with a friend will deepen your bond and give you both good luck for the year ahead. While another belief suggests hanging a hot cross bun from the ceiling for a whole year will bring you good luck, we recommend eating them while they’re still fresh for better luck and better taste.
