At Nugget Markets, we not only love food, but also helping feed those in need in our community. As longstanding partners and supporters of various local food banks, Nugget Markets helps provide relief to those in need through donations of food and funds, event sponsorships and various donation drives we host in partnership with our guests and associates.

One of the local organizations we support is Yolo Food Bank, which serves the neighborhoods of five of our stores. We are proud to partner with Yolo County Food Bank and sponsor community events like Pig Day Breakfast at the Davis Farmers Market, Kids Farmers Market and Running of the Turkeys 5K Run/Walk on Thanksgiving.

Another great event we support is the Empty Bowls fundraiser, hosted by many local area organizations. This community fundraiser gives attendees handmade and donated ceramic bowls as a reminder of hunger in the community, and benefits various organizations like River City Food Bank and Sacramento Food Bank.

Sacramento Loaves and Fishes, a charity that works to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless, also includes an operation called Maryhouse which serves women and children in crisis. Once a month, our Get ‘er Done team volunteers for Maryhouse and serves breakfast to about 100-150 people. Our team also recently donated their time and expertise to help remodel their kitchen using materials purchased by Nugget Markets at cost. What a team!

In an effort to make every ounce of food count, each one of our stores has a partnership with a local food distribution organization to share good food that we are not able to sell. One of these organizations is Extra Food in Marin County.

Even when food is past its prime, we do our best to not let it go to waste. One of the ways we do that is by partnering with California Safe Soil to turn food scraps into fertilizer for growing more crops and continuing a sustainable cycle of feeding our community.
