Want to up your protein game? Try plant-based proteins! Animal sources aren’t the only place to get quality protein, and you’d be surprised at how much protein some of your favorite veggies and grains have. Two companies that are looking to up everyone’s protein game are MRM and Vega.
MRM brings their Veggie Protein to the table in Vanilla, Chocolate and Unflavored varieties. With a protein blend of pea, brown rice, flax, chia and hemp, you’re getting a whopping 22 grams of protein in a single scoop serving. It’s not only vegan, but also gluten-free, soy-free and non-GMO. Veggie Protein is also an excellent source (740 mg per scoop) of Omega-3 fatty acids. The hemp, flax and chia powders that deliver protein and Omega-3’s work overtime, as they also contribute to the fiber content. To top it all off MRM throws in an antioxidant blend containing, among other things, cranberry and prune powder and grape seed extract.
If you’re an athlete and you’re still not convinced you can get sufficient protein from plant sources, Vega might be the company to convince you. One of the founders, and the person who formulates the products, is a vegan as well as a former Ironman Triathlete! Their Protein & Greens gives you 40% of your recommended daily value of protein (from sacha inchi, pea, hemp and brown rice) in a single scoop, along with the equivalent of 2 servings of greens (from spinach, kale, broccoli and alfalfa). They’ve added papaya enzyme to aid in digestion, and the chocolate version uses real Dutch process cocoa—no artificial flavorings for Vega!
If you haven’t already, give plant-based protein a chance. Mix a scoop of vanilla protein powder in with your oatmeal in the morning, or try a scoop of chocolate protein powder with a splash of coffee, some almond milk and a few ice cubes for an afternoon treat. There are a million ways to add your protein to your daily routine, and you’re limited only by your imagination!
