Along with top-of-the-line, rare and exclusive varietals, our adult beverage department also offers a great selection of value brands fit for any budget. Here are a few of our favorites.
Segura Viudas: This traditional Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) producer churns out what has to be the best value sparkling wine in the world and is always rated a “Best Buy” or “Top 100 Values” from all the major wine critics and publications. Do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle or two of their Brut bubbly, gather some friends or family around and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
Bogle Winery: This family-owned-and-operated winery in Clarksburg, California sets the gold standard for value. From their gold medal-winning Chardonnay, to the highly rated (90 points by Wine Spectator) Essential Red Blend, this winery consistently over-delivers for the price. The Petite Sirah, Old Vine Zinfandel and Merlot are not to be missed either!
Sobon Estate Winery: Nestled in Amador County in the Sierra Foothills, this small family-run estate is always a Nugget Markets favorite. Zinfandel and Barbera wines are the stars here, with the Zinfandel made from very old vines—almost a hundred years in age! The vines do not produce much wine, but what they do is pack with pure, juicy, briarberry fruit flavors.
Jaun Gil Family Estates: From the tiny village of Jumilla, Spain comes some of the best wine values in the world. The Gil family has been making wine here for more than one hundred years, and you know what they say—practice makes perfect. The Monastrell grape (called Mourvedre in France) really shines in this region. The organic version under the Honoro Vera label is a must try for any wine lover.
Shannon Ridge Winery: This winery sits at the southeastern end of Clear Lake and benefits from the warm daytime temperatures and cool evenings that keep the freshness in the wines. They are perennial gold medal winners in the regional wine competitions with their Sauvignon Blanc and Wrangler Red Blend. The wines are great to enjoy on their own, and more than capable of holding their own with simple or gourmet fare.
