2013 Castello Di Albola Chianti Classico – 90 points, James Suckling: This Sangiovese-based wine from the heart of the Chianti Classico region is bursting with aromas of strawberry and violets. Classic red fruits, polished tannins and a lovely spice note round out the palate.
2015 Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier – 90 points, Wine & Spirits: This pioneer of the Viognier grape in Australia continues to showcase what a lush, tropical wine can be made from this fickle varietal. Apricots, ginger and white flower flavors are intertwined with honey and toasted notes in this wonderful food wine. Try with Moroccan cuisine.
2015 Aveleda Follies Touriga Nacional – 92 points, Wine Enthusiast: Yet another terrific value from this winery. Made from Portugal’s top red grape, this Touriga Nacional is a rich, dense wine full of black fruits, dark chocolate and the violet perfume typical of this variety.
2014 Lincourt Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir – 93 points, Wine Enthusiast: What more could you ask for in a pinot noir, especially at this price? Dried strawberries and cranberry fruits are accented by rose petal and pine needle in this light, yet powerful wine, full of depth and finesse.
