Dying Easter eggs this year? Grab some fresh herbs, cheesecloth, and rubber bands along with your dye and eggs to make all sorts of fun patterns and shapes! Here's how:
- Make hard-boiled eggs. In a large pot, cover one layer of eggs with 1 inch of water. Bring to a rolling boil for 2 minutes, then turn off the heat and cover. After 10 minutes, remove eggs from pot and cool in an ice bath. If any crack, it’s okay—you can have a little snack!
- Assemble your other supplies: Mason jars, spoons, rubber bands, cheesecloth cut into 6-inch squares, herbs, and egg dye or food coloring.
- Place chosen herbs on each egg and swaddle tightly in cheesecloth, securing snuggly with a rubber band.
- Gently submerge eggs in your chosen dye for 10 minutes.
- Remove eggs from dye and allow to dry for 30 minutes before removing the cheesecloth and rubber band with scissors.
- Display your beautiful creations for all to see (or hide a few for curious kiddos to find)!
Have fun and happy Easter!
