This amazing organization is on a mission to inspire kids to eat their vegetables. Food Literacy Center provides cooking and nutrition education to children in low-income elementary schools throughout the Sacramento City Unified School District. To help nurture health, environment and economy, their lesson plans teach children cooking, nutrition, gardening and active play. One of the awesome services they provide is their Farmers Market for kids.

Food Literacy Center recently hosted their Spring Farmers Market, which we at Nugget Markets were proud to support! Together, we offered students the chance to take home a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables during Sacramento’s mandatory shelter in place. To help maintain safe social distancing, instead of the traditional “shopping” set-up, students and their families received a prepared produce box for pick-up. Students also received a Veggie STEM Bag with a lesson and activity about advocacy, and a recipe plus ingredients to cook Rainbow Soup with their families. When students bring home fresh veggies, lessons and recipes, they can continue practicing their new skills and knowledge at home!
Thank you, Food Literacy Center, for teaching the next generation all about good food, home cooking and healthy habits!
