Here at Nugget Markets, we love food, kids and our community, so when the opportunity arises to celebrate all three, we’re all for it! That’s why we proud to partner with Yolo Farm to Fork, whose three-pronged mission is to help local kids learn where good food comes from, develop a taste for healthful eating and experience the garden as a living laboratory that inspires life-long learning and career goals. 

When in-person learning shifted to digital classrooms due to the pandemic, this also meant many students no longer had access to school gardens, so Yolo Farm to Fork brought the garden to them! This wonderful program distributed weekly produce bags at school meal sites, offered virtual field trips to nearby farms and school gardens, and shared garden discovery kits with students so they could engage with garden-based learning projects at home.

To help support the cause, Nugget Markets jumped at the chance to help fund 10 new garden beds at Gibson Elementary School in Woodland! This location is ideal for a school garden because they house a production kitchen that serves both Whitehead and Zamora Elementary Schools’ meals programs. Both of these schools already have school gardens, so by adding Gibson, they can ensure more than 1,200 students have access to fresh garden produce in student meals daily.
