How many appetizers should I serve?
- If serving them as starters before a meal, offer 1–2 options and anticipate 3 pieces per person per appetizer.
- For heavy hors d’oeuvres parties, aim for a minimum of 10–12 pieces per person with 5–6 different selections.
- In addition to composed canapés, consider including 1–2 platters of fruit, crudité, antipasto or spinach dip.
What are the ones in the photo?
- Endive with Fishwife Smoked Salmon with Sichuan Chili Crisp, Terrapin Ridge Pesto Aioli and Sweet Peppers
- Roasted Garlic Crostini with Whipped Chèvre, Cherry Tomatoes, Terrapin Ridge Bacon Aioli and Chives
- La Panzanella Crackers with Liver Pâté, Cornichons, Oil-Cured Olives and Terrapin Ridge Spicy Chipotle Sauce
How do I spell or-derves?
Appetizers. Just kidding, it’s hors d’oeuvres, which literally translates to “out of work,” as in outside of the main meal.
Are toothpicks acceptable utensils?
In many cases, yes! Just make sure you have separate dishes and/or convenient trash cans available for used toothpicks (plus shrimp tails, pistachio shells, etc.).
