Moonshine has recently been gaining in appeal, and we’re happy to offer this popular (and completely legal) moonshine on our shelves. The recipe for Midnight Moon was created by the legendary Junior Johnson, a Hall of Fame NASCAR racecar driver. In fact, Junior honed his driving skills outrunning the law while delivering moonshine as a 14–year–old in North Carolina.

The recipe for Midnight Moon was created by the legendary Junior Johnson, a Hall of Fame NASCAR racecar driver. In fact, Junior honed his driving skills outrunning the law while delivering moonshine as a 14–year–old in North Carolina.
Now reformed from his wild ways, Johnson has gone legal and partnered with Piedmont distillers, a small operation in North Carolina. Moonshine has its roots in the backwoods of the South during Prohibition. These days, anyone with a license can legally produce it, and the term “moonshine” generally refers to any clear whiskey that has not gone into barrels. However, some distillers also make versions that have fruit and/or other spices added. Case in point: the Midnight Moon Apple Pie moonshine has been blended with apple juice and cinnamon sticks. With great natural apple and cinnamon flavors, it is very pleasing on its own over ice. If you’ve always wondered about moonshine but would prefer not to have the law after you, I recommend picking up Midnight Moon Apple Pie!
