Riesling Rendezvous
Please note that this is an older article. Any products or services pictured or described may have changed or may no longer be available. Thank you for visiting!
Our team of wine stewards just returned from a mind-blowing weekend at Chateau St. Michelle in Washington, where everyone tasted more than a hundred Rieslings from all over the world. It was 3 days of tasting and learning, all dedicated to celebrating the amazing versatility and attributes of this noble white wine.
“It was a Riesling immersion, and we were loving it!” says Hank Beal, Director of Adult Beverages for Nugget Markets. “Many wines were tasted blind with a panel of experts who walked us through the wines, breaking down the unique characteristics and arriving at a conclusion of where the wine was from, Old World or New World area. They were almost always dead on.”

And then there’s the food. “Each meal, excluding breakfast, was paired with different Rieslings to show off the versatility of the grape,” says Steve Graham, our wine steward from Nugget on Florin. Just shows how great this wine is around the table.
“There is fantastic Riesling being produced in areas you wouldn’t expect; places like northern Michigan, Ontario, Canada, and the Finger Lakes region of New York,” says Sean McNerney, our wine steward out of our Mace Blvd. Nugget, “and the blind tasting is an awesome way to illustrate how far New World producers have come.”
