Summer is here… can you feel it?! Here at Nugget Markets, we invite you to SEE your summer fun by considering the Social, Environmental and Economic impact of how you celebrate. No matter where your summer takes you—lakeside, virtual birthday parties or outdoor adventures—you can use these five easy tips to avoid the waste, support great causes and save the Earth, too!
- Save the oceans with your sunscreen: We want to keep ourselves protected from sunburns, but let’s keep our aquatic ecosystems safe, too! Consider using “reef-friendly” sunscreens that are made without the chemicals that are endangering our reefs. Learn about some of the options available to you on our blog, Fun in the Sunscreen.
- Skip the wrapping paper: Wrapping paper is super stylish nowadays, but it’s not always necessary. Unfortunately, not all those cute designs are 100% recyclable. Instead, consider reusing your old newspapers, Nugget Markets bags or wrapping paper from previous gifts!
- Hydrate for a cause: While you’re out there playing hard on the basketball court or hiking trail, staying hydrated is key! Consider purchasing energy drinks from companies who also make it their mission to SEE sustainability by donating their proceeds back to their communities or sourcing their ingredients responsibly, like Go Girl Energy Drinks and Clean Cause Sparkling Yerba Mate!
- Explore locally: Hawaii, Cabo, Costa Rica… any of your global destinations will be amazing and well worth the trip, but these destinations also take more resources to get to. Consider getting to know all the beauty in your own backyard which will create a sense of connection with your community as well as lighten your carbon footprint.
- Eat seasonally: We all love our summer BBQs thanks to our hot dogs, burgers, chips and drinks, but the real star is the amazing fresh produce we have at our fingertips! Fresh corn, cherries, peaches, heirloom tomatoes and watermelon are at their most delicious during this time of year because they’re all in season. Learn more about how eating seasonally brings you closer to your food.
For more information about any of these tips, simply ask the green guru at your local Nugget Markets! Our healthy living specialists can also help with eco-friendly sunscreens, and our grocery team can help you navigate the vast array of energy drink options.
